Skyhigh Restaurant Mount Dandenong
Get Some Perspective & Escape the noise and pressures of the concrete jungle. Less than 1 hour from the Melbourne CBD you can be SkyHigh – on the uppermost reach of the Dandenong Ranges, amid cool fern glades and lush towering native forest, looking at the big picture, from the Mornington Peninsula across the majestic sweep of Port Phillip Bay, surrounded by Melbourne’s growing urban fringes, to the You Yangs on the southern horizon. After sunset the southern sky, brilliant in the clear mountain night, is imitated by a spectacular carpet of city lights.
First established as a survey point in 1861 this historic area, which has recently undergone a lavish and sympathetic redevelopment, affords a unique overview of Greater Melbourne. Our Review Of Skyhigh Restaurant Mount Dandenong
On a quite mid-April, Sunday afternoon, we decided to take a drive out to the Dandenongs and visit the Sky High Restaurant in Dandenong. With the temperature in Melbourne at 15 degrees, it was a bone chilling 7 degrees up on the mountain.
Skyhigh has breathtaking views of Melbourne and you can clearly see the city of Melbourne and Port Phillip Bay on a clear day. In the other direction, Mount Macedon, King Lake and the Great dividing ranges can be seen. Be warned that visibility may be limited due to fog and other weather conditions.
Like the Dandenongs, Skyhigh features scenic landscapes and beautiful gardens. If it wasn’t so cold, I would have enjoyed to sit out in the garden areas and just enjoy the peace and tranquillity.
The bistro at Skyhigh features modern architecture, built on multiple levels with plenty of glass to enjoy the views. The interior is rather plain and uninteresting, with casual cafe style tables and chairs.
The menu varies depending on the time of day. We went for lunch and the lunch menu featured mainly pizza/pasta and light meals. We ordered the hamburger and fish and chips, both served with a side salad. The battered fish were rather tasty and the French fries a touch soggy. The hamburger was disappointing. The beef patty looked and tasted like something purchased from from the frozen food section at a supermarket. We paid around $19 per dish.
Our recommendation – worth the scenic drive and views but not the food. There are plenty of cafes and restaurants in Olinda and surrounding areas which looked tempting. |
